Rifle Shoot at the Goffstown Fish & Game Association

On October 17, Troop 99 enjoyed a successful troop shoot at Goffstown Fish & Game. This fun shoot was designed to provide scouts with the opportunity to learn or improve rifle shooting skills and firearm safety. In accordance with BSA policy, the scouts were limited to shooting .22 caliber rim fire rifles only.

The day began with a mandatory firearm safety and range safety briefing which began at 9:00 sharp. This briefing will also covered instructions for the proper use of the Ruger 10/22 rifles being used at the event. Scouts were not permitted to handle or fire the rifles if they had not attended the entire briefing.

After an hour of safety demonstrations and instruction, the scouts took to the range to practice target shooting with .22 rifles.

This event was sponsored and hosted by the Goffstown Fish & Game Association. They generously provided the rifles, ammunition, instructors, and range safety officers in addition to closing down one of their ranges so that it could be used exclusively by Troop 99. Targets were donated by Jay's Gun Shop on Black Brook Road in Dunbarton. The ammunition was provided through a grant Goffstown Fish & Game received from the National Rifle Association. Please remember to express your gratitude to members of the Goffstown Fish & Game Association as well as Jay's Gun Shop. The Troop will be planning a service project at the Goffstown Fish & Game Association to help show our appreciation.
