Massabesic Klondike

This weekend Troop 99 participated in the Massabesic Klondike at Camp Carpenter in Manchester. It has been a couple of years since we did this event. Last year during the pandemic, the troop arranged their own mini-Klondike amongst themselves. This year, it was back to competing against other troops in a series of stations that test a scout's knowledge of survival skills and challenges, all while navigating a sled loaded with equipment through the course. At each station, a patrol is scored on successfully completing the challenges as well as their overall attitude. This is an endurance event, starting at about 8am with sled inspections and lasting until about 4pm.

The Results are In!

Out of 40 patrols competing, Troop 99's three patrols were all in the top 10. Two of our patrols were in the top 3!

TOP TEN PATROLS:

10: Troop 99B, Ancient Eagle Patrol

9: Troop 120, Red Tail Pirate Patrol

8: Troop 97, The Last-Minute Men Patrol

7: Troop 209, Swiss Army Owls Patrol

6: Troop 1776, Hawk Patrol

5: Troop 6G, Frogs Patrol

4: Troop 1776, Wolf Patrol

3: Troop 99B, Avenger Patrol

2: Troop 99G, Trash Panda Patrol

1: Troop 1776, Bald Eagle Patrol

All the scouts should be very proud of themselves for getting into the top ten. There were 40 patrols competing, so this is a huge accomplishment. This speaks volumes to both the Boys' and Girls' Troops. We both strive to be scout led troops, and these results really showcase the leadership skills of the older scouts and their ability to teach these life skills to the younger/newer scouts. Similarly, all the scouts should take pride in the fact they have taken in the skills taught to them and were able to apply them in a real world setting, while working together as team. So, congratulations to all the scouts in our Troop 99 family!
